The STA is a professional body that provides accreditation for installers, designers, and manufacturers of timber frame structures.
Currently offering industry leading expertise to its members and guarantees to the industry that work will be carried out to their exacting standards.
In order to better support the timber frame installer workforce, the STA recognised a need to improve the access, delivery, and assessment of their Installer Training Scheme (Formerly TFCAS).
The STA decided to engage with Click2 Learn to support them on this project given our technical capabilities and proven results in L&D.
The Problem:
Access to workbooks – Provided as static documents that could be downloaded or posted to members as physical books. The STA wanted to create a more engaging way for its members to access their material.
Invigilated exams – Installation companies must demonstrate that 66% of its erector workforce is competent in timber frame erection/installation in order to comply with the STA Assure scheme. This requires individuals to sit an invigilated exam. The STA were not able to keep up with demand and had a backlog of ~1000 members needing to sit the exam.
Objectives
To provide their members with easy access to the latest knowledge of timber frame installation to increase capability within the industry.
To digitise workbooks and make them accessible to members 24/7.
To create a way for members to sit exams without having to visit a test centre at a set time and place.
To create a place to host STA learning content and future STA materials.
Improvement Activity
Source material was provided by STA and converted into easy to access catalogued content.
A bespoke portal was then created with provision to host circa 2000 STA members. STA branding was applied to the portal a API links established to the STA members website.
Digitised content was then uploaded to the portal with searchable indexed content to enable members quick access to information
An online exam was created based on the workbook content
An AI proctoring tool was then integrated into the STA learning portal. This proctoring solution enables STA members to sit exams at any time and from anywhere. The AI technology ensures that test takers must comply with invigilation rules specified by the STA.
Result
STA members now have 24/7 access to STA workbooks, with fully searchable indexed content for quick reference.
Exams are now available online and can be taken from anywhere at anytime.
STA back has reduced its exam backlog to 0 within 2 months.
Exam invigilation is now fully automated, with 10% being manually reviewed when suspicious activity is detected.
